A Few Obvious Signs of Summer

Photobucket
Megan and Katherine at Goldie's. I believe this was Katherine's first weekend off since I've known her...

Photobucket
Megan: Okay guys, now it's your turn for a picture... No... That's no good

Photobucket
Megan: No, not that one either...

Photobucket
Megan: Mike, stop it!
Mike: I'm getting bored...
Megan: Come on, let's get a good one.

Photobucket
Mike: That's it, I'm snorting my beer...

Megan and I went to Margie's with a couple friends after dinner. For those of you who don't know, it's where the Beatle's get ice cream when they are in town. And, they have a little Ringo figurine to prove it (along with everything else)...

Photobucket
I was mesmerized by the watermelon cake when we decided to hang out in Dominick's. But, then I saw the hamburger cake and it blew my mind.

Photobucket
Another sign of why my work is awesome. Taco parties, panini potlucks, the mysterious "Random Acts of Kindness" committee, and now they are giving me chocolate bars. Oh, and a paycheck too...

This has nothing to do with CANstruction. It's a leftover from Artropolis. Some kind of pop art wax monster. Or someone just coming out from a swim in the Chicago River. Your call...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEGAN! (Belated, but I told you in person. So...) Same night as CANstruction.

For Megan's birthday, she wanted to check out the Chicago Botanic Garden. About half of it was flooded from the very little rain we received. FYI-All of Chicago's topsoil was taken away by the glaciers, a very long time ago, leaving mostly clay. Therefore, basements, highways, and everything floods with very little rain. It's why Chicago was a swamp to begin with. It's so bad that if trees grow large enough, the clay suffocates the roots and they die. If that doesn't kill them, the water soaked soil with drown them. Crazy...

One of my many reasons for loving Chicago. Where else can I go and randomly come across a kid running around in a unicorn outfit in May? Not many...

Birthday dinner was at Ethiopian Diamond. We wanted to try it because neither of us have ever had African before. It was awesome and you should eat it. This is the appetizer of Sambusa, which is some kind of pastry with your choice of innards. We had potato and carrot. Behind is honey wine.

Our HUGE tray of lamb with spinach and chicken. There was salad and a few other sides. Plus, it was served on bread.

Photobucket
Here's the bread. On one side it's like felt. On the other, a sponge. All delicious

See! Megan likes it! So, try it out. The website is: http://www.ethiopiandiamondcuisine.com/

The most disturbing item for sale. Why is Santa bathing in crackers? Why would I want to touch those crackers? What will I find once the crackers are gone? What's with the sack full of dip? What's with that look on St. Nicholas' face?

Photobucket
Kim & Scott's Gourmet Pretzel Restaurant. Never heard of them before, but they were giving away free lunches. It was like a more festive version of a Great Depression soup kitchen with better food and fanfare.

Photobucket
My half eaten free lunch. A nice still life of pizza pretzel, lemonade and missing apple cinnamon pods.
